
Reeds for Uilleann Pipes

My name is Joseph Smith. I am an Uilleann Piper and reedmaker living in Central Florida along with my wife and our Bull Terrier, Squeegee.
I
have been building Uilleann Pipe reeds for two years and have reeded chanters from around the world.
The majority of my reeds are made from Arundo Donax (L), that I harvest from the wild here in Central Florida. This cane has proven to be of good quality and is similar in softness to 'California Cane' used by many bagpipe and reed makers today. Though it is my main source for material, I do build reeds from French and Spanish cane as well, which are harder than either California or Florida cane.
